Frequently asked questions

How many square feet are on a pallet of sod?
It depends on the farm and grass type. Pallets commonly cover about 400 to 500 square feet, with 450 being a frequent size. Ask your supplier and enter their number.
How much extra sod should I order?
Add 5 to 10 percent for cuts around curves, beds and edges. Odd-shaped lawns need more.
How much does a pallet of sod weigh?
Roughly 1,500 to 3,000 pounds depending on moisture and soil, which is why delivery or a trailer is usually required.
How do I measure the area for sod?
Trace the area on a satellite map with the lawn size calculator, or split it into rectangles and triangles and add them up.
Can I lay sod over an existing lawn?
No. Remove the old turf, grade, and lay sod on bare prepared soil so the roots make contact.
