Frequently asked questions

How accurate is a satellite lawn measurement?
As accurate as the outline you trace, typically within a few percent on open lawns. Tree canopy and shadows can hide the lawn edge, so drag the corners to where the grass actually ends.
How many square feet is the average lawn?
Most US residential lawns fall between 5,000 and 10,000 square feet, though lot sizes vary widely by region. Measure rather than guess: fertilizer, seed and mowing prices all scale with area.
How do I convert square feet to acres?
Divide square feet by 43,560. A 10,000 sq ft lawn is 0.23 acres.
Should I subtract the house and driveway?
Yes. Trace only the turf you will service. Draw beds, driveways and patios as separate shapes if you need those numbers too.
Can I save or share the measurement?
This free tool is for a quick number. Contractors who need to keep measurements, price them and send quotes can create a free AboveYard account.
