Frequently asked questions
- How do I measure a fence from a satellite map?
- Choose Draw line, click at each corner post along the fence, and double-click at the end. The tool adds up each segment and shows the total in feet.
- How many fence panels do I need?
- Divide the total length by the panel width (commonly 6 or 8 feet) and round up. Add one post per panel plus one, and subtract gate widths.
- Can I see property lines on the satellite image?
- Satellite imagery does not show legal boundaries. Use it to measure existing fences or visible edges; for new fences on a boundary, check the plat or county parcel map.
- How accurate is a satellite fence measurement?
- Within a few feet on a typical residential fence, as long as the fence is visible and you click close to the posts. Tree cover is the main source of error.
- Can I measure gutters with this?
- Yes. Trace the roof edge where gutters run. Downspouts are counted separately.
