Free Satellite Measuring Tools for Lawn Care and Pressure Washing (2026)

Which satellite measuring tools are free for lawn care and pressure washing contractors, what each free plan limits, and which turn a measurement into a quote.

By the AboveYard team · Updated October 21, 2026 · 5 min read

If you want to measure a lawn or driveway from satellite without paying for software, you have real options in 2026. MakeHay and AboveYard are free with no measurement cap and turn the measurement into a quote your customer approves online. SideWRK and Quote King have free plans with monthly or yearly caps. Turf Measure and Google Earth measure for free but don't produce a quote the customer can sign.

AboveYard publishes this page, so we've stuck to facts each company states on its own website, checked on October 21, 2026, with links in the Sources section. Prices and limits change; check the vendor's page before you commit.

For comparison, two well-known paid tools: LawnVex has no free plan (from $49 a month with 40 measurements, and the trial requires a payment method), and QuoteIQ starts at $29.99 a month, with its MapMeasure Pro satellite tool on the $99.99 plan and up.

MakeHay

MakeHay is the most generous free option we found. The whole CRM is "$0/mo, forever" with no credit card: unlimited clients, quotes and invoices, good/better/best packages with deposits, card and ACH payments, e-signatures and automatic quote follow-ups. Its satellite measurement tool works without a login, uses Esri imagery, lets you flip to an earlier imagery year, and measures area, length and counts (stalls, trees, posts). Paid add-ons are branding removal ($9/mo), texting ($19/mo, listed as coming in late October or November) and a website ($197/mo).

Best for: a contractor who wants one free system for quoting, scheduling, invoicing and payments. Its website embed is a request form, not an instant price.

AboveYard

AboveYard does one job: measure, price and get the quote signed. Type an address, trace lawns, beds, driveways or fences on Esri satellite imagery, and your rate sheet prices it per square foot, per 1,000 square feet, per linear foot or flat, with minimums and per-visit pricing. You can offer Good, Better and Best options. The customer gets a link, picks an option, ticks add-ons and signs by typing their name; the time and IP are recorded. Unsigned quotes get reminder emails on day 2, 5 and 10. Everything is free with no measurement cap and no paid plan.

The free website quote button lets a homeowner outline their own property on your site and see an estimate from your prices before sending the request.

Best for: owner-operators who already have a way to schedule and invoice and want faster measured quotes. It doesn't do scheduling, invoicing, payments, deposits or AI auto-measuring, and it has no historical imagery.

SideWRK

SideWRK markets itself as an invoicing app for side work across 42 trades. Measuring needs no sign-up and has no per-measurement charge. It handles area, linear runs and roofing squares with a pitch setting, on Esri imagery. The measurement carries straight into an estimate, and the customer approves on their phone by typing their name and can pay a deposit. The free app allows 5 jobs a year; a job counts when you send it for approval, print or share it, or mark it paid, and drafts are free. After that it's one plan at $19 a month or $190 a year.

Best for: occasional jobs, or trying satellite quoting before you're doing it weekly.

Quote King

Quote King is built for pressure washing only. You trace the driveway, roof or siding on a satellite map and square footage is calculated with Google Maps geometry; it also detects roof pitch from a photo on paid plans. Quotes go out by text or email with a Stripe deposit link, and unanswered quotes are re-sent automatically after 24 and 72 hours. The free plan covers 5 quotes a month with no card; Solo is $25 a month for 50 quotes.

Best for: pressure washing crews who want deposits collected with the quote.

Turf Measure

Turf Measure is a single-purpose lawn area calculator. You get 3 measurements with a free account (1 without one), with area, perimeter, multiple zones and PDF reports. Unlimited use is a $5 seven-day pass or $9 a month. It produces a branded report, not a quote with pricing or approval.

Best for: a one-off measurement, or homeowners ordering sod or seed.

Google Earth

Google Earth's free Standard plan includes basic measurement: distances, paths and polygon areas. Google warns that measurements don't account for elevation and may not be fully accurate in areas with 3D terrain and buildings. Advanced measurement sits in the paid Professional plans at $75 and $150 per user per month. There's no pricing or quoting, so you'd copy the number into your own estimate. Our guide on measuring a lawn from satellite covers the tracing technique.

How to choose

  • You want one free system for everything: MakeHay.
  • You want measured quotes, signed fast, and you already invoice elsewhere: AboveYard.
  • You quote a few jobs a year: SideWRK's free plan or Quote King's free plan will likely cover you.
  • You just need a number: Google Earth, or a free lawn size calculator or driveway square footage calculator.

Whichever you pick, check the imagery date and look for tree cover before you trust a measurement. On wooded lots, a note that the price is confirmed on site saves arguments later.
